Our History

Swift Shipping’s association with the shipping industry dates as far back as 1885, when the Late Mr. A.M.Nagoor Meera owned and operated sea-going vessels under the company name A.M.Nagoor Meera Sons & Co Ltd. His son Mr. N.M.M.Hanifa, a qualified Lawyer, continued the business and introduced Ship Chandelling to the Port of Colombo and Tricomalee and was the only registered suppliers for the British Government’s naval vessels and the British forces in Colombo, Trincomalee and Katuranayake.

His son Mr. M.H.Mohamed ,who was a politician in 1944, diversified into the Shipping Agency business and Chartering of vessels to the Sri Lanka Government for the carriage of food grain, sugar and other shipments. For the first time A.M Nagoor Meera Sons & Co Ltd introduced Lighter operations for the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation with Troodos Shipping and Trading. Mr. M. Hussain Mohamed & Mr. Shahul Hameed Mohamed, the sons of Mr. M.H.Mohamed, started their careers in the shipping business in 1965 at A.M. Nagoor Meera Son & Co Ltd.

In 1999 A. M. Nagoor Meera Sons & Co Ltd diversified into other fields and was converted into a Holding Company for their diversified companies. Swift Shipping was established for the Shipping Agency, Chartering business and bunkering.

In 2015, Swift Shipping joined hand with Sherman’s Logistics, another very well-established shipping company in Sri Lanka. The company is jointly owned by Mr. Hussain & Shaul Hammed Mohamed and Shermans Logistics (Pvt) Ltd.

The Shermans name goes back to 1931, being the pioneers & leaders in the export trade for several decades. The company has now diversified into various other sectors such as Imports, Trading, and Transport & Logistics.
